We started this last day with a session on Curriculum Design by Dr. Morgan Soffler. Although other design methods exist, she focused on Kern’s 6 step curriculum design: problem identification, targeted needs assessment, goals &objectives, educational strategies, implementation, evaluation & feedback. Dr. Chris Smith came back for his second talk on assessment of learning. He taught us that to be competent one must possess the required skills in all domains within a certain context at a defined stage of education or practice. We kicked off this morning with Dr. David Roberts talking about leveraging technology with an emphasis on generative AI and large language models. He provided a great overview and taught us some of the basics. He demonstrated how we can use Chat GPT to help us with a teaching session – a session on inpatient diabetes (thanks to participation help!) Dr. Schwartzstein taught us about critical thinking and clinical reasoning. He emphasized that we must “work the problem.” He expanded on the dual process theory that Dr. Hayes introduced this morning. We also learned the importance of accepting uncertainty.
